OHL veteran bringing lots of experience to Trenton
QUINTE WEST, ON – Friday August 21st, 2020: Coach Peter Goulet says he is not ready to call anyone a number one defencemen, however Trenton's latest acquisition has number one written all over him.
Goulet says he is thrilled to welcome Marko Jakovljevic. " We are excited about the transaction. Marko is a veteran d-man with a ton of OHL experience and will provide leadership and talent, not only for the players, but for the coaching staff as well."
Jakovljevic says his friend helped showcase Trenton's positives. " I got my foot in the door because of Captain Griffen Fox. He has been my best buddy since we were young. We played with each other since we were little. From there Coach Goulet worked hard, and said all the right things. Everything has ended up working out."
He has played three years with the Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting. "Any three or four year veteran of any junior hockey is going to bring a lot of experience to the table. I feel the OHL has helped my game a ton in the last three years. I will be able to bring a level head and a calming influence. The goal will be to win a championship."
"I have only heard good things about Trenton. I trust Foxy (Griffen Fox) and he loves the organization, he loves the coaching staff, and all the players. I have met some of the guys already, and have nothing negative to say at all," added the 6'4/210 rear guard.
"I describe my game as a responsible, defensive minded player. I am hoping to bring some offense as well. I would compare myself to Matthias Ekholm, or Nikita Zadorov.”
The Brantford native turns 20 in November and has played 143 games over three years in the OHL.
Before that he was a product of the Brantford 99ers AAA system.
He was a second round selection in the U18 OHL Priority Selection.
