The Children's Foundation and Trenton Golden Hawks Announce Dress Purple Game

October 25, 2022
2:35 PM EDT

It is always a great night whenever the Trenton Golden Hawks and Wellington Dukes meet, but this game has even more meaning behind it.

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Recently staff with The Children’s Foundation met with players and staff of the Trenton Golden Hawks to launch a major fundraising event.

On Friday November 18th, the Golden Hawks are hosting a Dress Purple Game.  This Thursday (October 27) is Dress Purple Day. Dress Purple Day is to show our children, youth, and families that we are all here to help.

On the 18th, each member of the Trenton Golden Hawks will wear a specialized purple jersey.  They will be auctioned off, with every dollar going to The Children’s Foundation.

“We have auctioned off jerseys numerous times,” says GHawks Director of Operations John McDonald. “We are always thrilled to purchase jerseys and supply net proceeds to a wonderful charity, group, or organization.  This game, however, will see even more dollars raised.  Former Hastings County Warden Rick Phillips and Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison have stepped up to buy the jerseys, meaning every single cent from the auction will go to The Children’s Foundation.”

Liz Lehtinen, Board Chair from The Children’s Foundation says, “We are thrilled to be partnering once again with the Trenton Golden Hawks. What makes this more special is that they are playing the Wellington Dukes. The Children’s Foundation assists youth in both Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. No matter who the fans are cheering for at “The Dunc” on November 18th, youth in our area will be the winners.”

There will be several ways the game is raising funds for T.C.F.  Environmental 360 Solutions, which provides waste management in both Prince Edward County and Quinte West, has purchased all remaining tickets for the game.  Those tickets have now been handed over to The Children’s Foundation to sell.  Beckie Sarles-Davis of Talbot Promo, who made the specialized jerseys, will also donate $50 for every goal in the game, to The Children’s Foundation.

The silent auction will include non-game jersey items as well, along with a T.C.F info booth, and a donation location.

The Kinsmen Club of Trenton will be raising some funds for their great programs, by running a bar in the upstairs hall.  They will also operate their 50/50.  Trenton Golden Hawks merchandise, Tim Horton’s Chuck-A-Puck, music, and more, will also be part of the evening.

If you do not have tickets for the game already, you can contact The Children’s Foundation at (613) 962-9292 to purchase seats.  Tickets are just $5.  If there are tickets remaining, you can grab them at the door on game day (follow The Children’s Foundation social media for updates on ticket numbers remaining).  This game will be a sellout.  Do not be disappointed, purchase your tickets ahead of time.
